The mobile phone batteries are mainly classified in to four categories.
1. Lithium polymer type
Li - Poly is the latest and most advanced technology batteries for cellular phones. It is ultra light weight and does not explode. It is capable to release up to 40 % more battery capacity than the same size of NiMH batteries without suffer from memory effect.

2. Lithium Ion type
Li- Ion is also an advanced technology batteries for cellular phones. It is does suffer from memory effect and will delver up to 40 % more battery capacity than the same size of NiMH batteries. Li - Ion batteries are expensive and not suitable for older cell phones.

3. Nickel Metal Hydride Type
NiMH batteries are also not suffered from memory effect. Compare to Ni Cad batteries it will run 40% longer on each charge and have double battery life.
4. Nickel Cadmium Type
NiCad batteries are of older technology and suffer from memory effect. This will reduce the batteries overall capacity, run time and life span. Also they must be completely discharge before each recharge.
